LIGHT PART !

LIGHT : Part 1

“Light” is an important factor in photography and there is no photography without light. We are able to see because of presence of light. The more light the brighter the object appear. By controlling light it is possible to determine expression or impression in a scene.
As far as photography is concerned, there are various type of light source explained. Based on certain factors, these light sources are named as follows:

                         1)  Natural light
                         2)  Existing light
                         3)  Artificial light
                         4)  Flash

Natural light : All light has certain fundamental pictorial qualities. By natural light we are referring to light that may fall into several different qualities. 1) Direct light, 2) Directional diffused light 3) Diffused light 4) Silhouette or back  light.

Direct light generally occurs when light is hitting the subject from one angle. It creates a hard edge effect that may leave shadow areas void of any details. A clear, bright sunny day either early in the morning or late afternoon will produce Direct light.
Directional diffused light has some of the qualities of direct light, in addition to light that has been scattered or diffused. Though it produces shadow areas , they will be soft only with less sharp edges. Example of Directional diffused light is next to a window.
Diffused light is difficult to achieve  indoor unless  special effect is put. This the light that illuminates from all directions. Outdoor shooting on a overcast day is an example for this type of light.

Silhouette : This light is achieved in back lit situations. There will be contrast in this type of lighting.

Existing light Photography :  Means picture taking in available light. Has got an endless array of possibilities. The range may be from candle light illumination to sunlit. usually this type lighting refers to indoor scenes . For this type of photography , camera with faster lens or with higher power is required and high ISO settings preferred.
.Flash : Taking photographs in poor light condition, then the flash must be used for illuminating the subject.

Artificial light : Artificial light source for photography are of two kinds :
instantaneous  and  continuous. The former being flash and the latter being flood lights and spotlights.
